Vikki Spurlock-Lee has a thriving career in nursing and medical education. She earned her Associate of Nursing from Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing in 2007. For the past twelve years, Vikki has served as a Registered Nurse in various departments such as Medical/Surgical, Cardiology, and Mental and Behavioral Health.
Vikki is a certified Train the Trainer instructor and a CPR and CPI instructor. She is also a Childcare Health Consultant. The Registered Nurse has been teaching Medication Administration for seven years where she caters to adult learners and their success in learning. She has also consulted PCA and residential facilities for the past seven years and is very proud to be fluent with regulations for healthcare facilities and what is needed to pass state surveys.
This year Vikki launched Rosebud Healthcare and Training with a vision to provide training at a higher caliber and advocate healthcare holistically….mind, body, and spirit.
The Baton Rouge native is a passionate mother of two sons and a daughter. When she is not working, Vikki enjoys attending sporting events and spending time with her family. Meet the fairly new business owner below.Â
Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Vikki, Vikki?
Vikki: Fun-loving, compassionate and caring.
Fancy: What sparked your interest in nursing?
Vikki: My grandfather was sick at home on hospice, nothing could be done, but his nurse made the difference. She came in bright and bubbly every time. She wasn’t just his nurse; she cared for our whole family. At that point, I knew I wanted to do that for others.
Fancy: Can you describe the point in your life where you knew that you had enough knowledge and a strong enough skill-set to begin your business venture?
Vikki: I’ve known for about five years, but I was scared. Every time someone I knew was doing something (starting a business, having an event, or anything- community service), I had great ideas, and it seemed natural to tell them exactly what to do. It took three years of my mentor Nicole Thomas telling me to “do it scaredâ€. One day I gathered all the information and went to The Secretary of State office. I was actually doing it, and boy was I scared! 😂😂
Fancy: So tell us about the types of services that Rosebud Healthcare provides and who your ideal clients are.
Vikki: RBHT provides CPR, CPI, Medication Administration 16- hour and 60-hour certifications, TB skin test for clients or employees, nurse consultation for PCA facilities, MHR facilities, residential homes, group homes, daycare/childcare institutions, and recently charter and elementary schools. I never saw myself instructing educators, but I love it. My ideal clientele is adult learners, who work together. I love training as a group. Many times we get deeper than we intended. We discuss protocols and processes and make changes as a group. I love teaching adult learners. It’s awesome to see the lightbulb when it comes on; usually, everyone gets it at the same time. Then you have a burst of energy in the room, which makes everyone’s minds go 0 to 90. At that time, ideas are flowing and the sky is the limit. Those moments alone remind me of my purpose. Those are intentional moments.

Fancy: Nurses seem to have a busy schedule. How did you find the time to get Rosebud Healthcare off the ground?
Vikki: I’ve actually been consulting and teaching medication administration for seven years. It was late March of this year when I thought if I’m being referred without promotion or intention, what could I do if I tried? My life is busy. but when I have the “I don’t wanna†spirit, I think if I can do it for an employer, I can do it for myself, my future and my children.
Fancy: Although your brand is still fairly new, from our conversation, I learned that you have already formed some meaningful connections that have provided you solid contracts, and we know how important relationships are in business. Do you have any tips for building and/or maintaining business relationships?
Vikki: My biggest tip is to have God first, be heartfelt and transparent. Your word, your inspiration, and your gratitude goes a long way. Be real!!
Fancy: I’m noticing more nursing majors pursuing entrepreneurship and doing well, but I’m curious to know if nursing is still a lucrative career or is it more the sense of freedom that you all find more appealing?
Vikki: Nursing is hard work. Don’t get me wrong, I realize teaching third graders is no piece of cake. Nursing is 12 hours, on your feet, customer service and counseling with a smile and life or death with the wrong drug. I think the mental aspect is more tiring than physical duties. There’s money to be made in nursing, but as the old saying goes, “the more you make, the more you want to make.†I don’t know one nurse with just one job. We truly have the work hard, play hard mentality.
Fancy: Where do you hope to see your brand in the next five years?
Vikki: It’s only been three months, and I’ve certified educators in Jackson, MS, and Memphis, TN. I’m not putting a limit on God. When I started, I thought I’d be catering to healthcare institutes alone. I’m actually teaching and certifying educators. I’m helping new schools with walkthroughs and make protocols and policies. It’s only been three months, but I’m following God, his will and his way. I can’t go on my thoughts. I couldn’t have made this up if I tried. My God is leading- I want no part of his glory. It all belongs to him, and with him, the sky is the limit. I’ll just continue to be in awe.
Fancy: What is one obstacle you overcame to better yourself whether it be professionally or personally and how did you do so?
Vikki: My biggest obstacle was forgiveness. Myself like many others have been wronged by people we thought were friends. Well, I held on to hurt and went through a period of hardness. I actually saw my complexion change. I couldn’t even capture a picture with a nice smile. I was in a bad place. It took me going back to church, going to the altar, and then someone praying over me to help me out my rut. After I forgave, God cleared my mind and my soul. I was able to think and then Rosebud Healthcare and Training was born.
Fancy: How do you balance your job, family, and business or do you seek harmony instead?
Vikki: It’s hard… I serve as Nurse Administrator at the facility I work. Therefore, I’m on 24-hour call. I can remember having a procedure and after the anesthesia wore off returning calls. We just developed a call for me to take off within the last 2 weeks. I am super excited about that. With RBHT, I’m able to schedule for my convenience. It was funny at first because I have to put everything on a calendar. It feels pretty good. Finally, my family. I have the best family in the world. If I’m doing an event for RBHT, they all come. They help set up, man the booth if I’m helping with other things and around to help me break down. But that’s just not with RBHT, they help with everything I’m involved in. I’m truly blessed to have a supportive family. We get family time in, even if they all just come lay on the bed while I rest. We manage to get family time in.
Fancy: Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you care to share?
Vikki: I’m very excited to be a vendor for EBR COA Senior Expo. RBHT will be serving our Seniors by performing blood pressure checks and blood glucose tests. I love to serve my community and being able to be a vendor for the Senior Expo is major for me. In addition to that, I pray I continue to be referred, which will allow me to keep consulting, keep training and keep building lasting relationships with great people.
