When Black women mobilize, there can be beautiful outcomes.
There I was, sitting in my home watching my son play, resting from COVID, when I got the text. The text was from one of my sisterfriends with a Zoom link stating, Black Women for Harris. I immediately jumped on to this unofficial meeting. Earlier in the day, President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race for the White House and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee. The call was a call of action, and Win With Black Women organized the next steps. I just knew I needed to be on the right side of history on this one.
On July 21, 2024, I was among the 44k on the historic call to mobilize black women for Vice President Kamala Harris. It is my understanding that the thought was that there would only be 1k women on the call, but it turned out to be 44,000. In three hours, the call generated 1.5 million for the Harris campaign.
Things to consider are that if Biden had resigned, Vice President Kamala Harris would have been the first Black Woman President. Instead he gave up his bid for the White House for the 2024 election.
President Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris does not automatically mean she received the DNC nomination. She will have to secure 1,986 delegates to become the candidate. Per The Hill, by Sunday night, VP Harris had 531 delegates. President Biden’s 3,800 delegates do not automatically go to Vice President Harris; they have been released.
The Democratic National Convention will be held on August 17. The DNC can opt for an open nomination, which is like a primary, or they can decide by delegates. This is why her securing so many delegates so fast is a really good look. Having a “primary” during the DNC for the ordinary person can seem like division and create chaos. As it is late in the day, as the old people used to say, the delegate route seems to be the best way to go since the election is 105 days away. The Democrats, at this point, need to create a united front, or else Trump will use that as a talking to discredit them.
Amongst many women, Vice President Harris is our girl, and I am with her. Many have stated they have not seen her, but that is because she has been working hard for the people. Check her stats. Stay tuned to find out how you can help. As for now, you can donate at https://secure.joebident.com/a/black-leadership-council-bvf. The link states “President Biden” at this time, but all money will be turned over to VP Harris.
