When the Struggle is Really Getting Real, A SNAP Benefits Update

If you are not following mainstream news and the government shutdown right now, many federal government programs are currently closed and over 800,000 federal employees are either out of work or working without pay. The latest issue is with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP, which is currently at risk.

Over the weekend some states began to announce that SNAP recipients would receive their February benefits in the month of January with cautionary warnings of spending wisely, as officials are unsure of what funds they may have to disburse in March.

Some states are said to be loading stamp benefits as early as January 20th.

Those who may be pending approval may need to check to see if their states have a deadline; like the state of Missouri’s residents need to have their applications in by January 15th at 11:59 AM. The state of Louisiana said they will continue to accept applications as long as they have funds.

Those who receive February benefits this month will not be receiving additional funds next month.

In 2017, more than 42 million citizens were part of this anti-hunger, USDA ran program.

Speculation on whether the program would be able to continue providing benefits began earlier this month, and the USDA stated there were only enough funds to last through the month of February.

If you or someone you know receives stamps, please be mindful of how you spend. While we can laugh and joke about the matter, this is serious, and many people depend on these benefits, and may I also add it’s not just the Black community.

Apparently, the imaginary “south border crisis” is bigger than millions of starving Americans to Trump.
