Yesterday I made my second TikTok video! What’s special about that? Well if you hadn’t noticed, TikTok is all the rave. If you look at your IG right now, you may notice that you see just as many TikTok videos on your timeline as you do content created in Instagram.
Secretly, I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of content I could create that would engage with my followers more, but I am more of the serious type so I really struggled. I am not good at being anyone other than me, but I first asked my daughter to make a dance that I could do points to. We never made it around to that because we started learning how to do the Soulja Boy She Make it Clap dance. For those who are unfamiliar, we literally clap in the dance. Nothing else.
It took me at least thirty minutes to learn the moves and I was so nervous about sharing afterward, but the good thing is I had my daughters with me. I felt a little more comfortable with them by my side and also to take the attention away from me somewhat.
For my second video, I wanted to learn a dance that I saw one of the media correspondents do, so I posted a video of my learning it. I intend to do a third one when I am dressed up and do the dance.
Why am I going on about TikTok dancing? Well, we as business owners need to be able to stay current with the times. At one point, a photo was all you needed for Instagram, but that is no longer the case.
If you hadn’t noticed reels get more views and engagement than static posts nowadays. That’s because the algorithm is set to display reels more frequently. So if you are trying to be seen, you may want to post a reel.
If you have a business account like we do, then you may not have the fun music catalog like a regular user has. That’s why I went to TikTok. I can create my video there and then share it on my IG reel.
So far, I’ve had good responses to the videos I shared. While I was super afraid to share them, my following seems to enjoy seeing the other side of me that is not so serious, and I am enjoying not being so serious.
My being silly makes me a little more relatable to the average person. People want to know more about the person behind the brand and if they come on my page, I hope they will get to learn more about me. Initially, I didn’t know how I could incorporate TikTok into my social media mix, though I was watching others do it bit by bit.
On a lighter note, I almost missed mine and Arnya’s interview on Chit Chat podcast because I only realized it was approaching while trying to delete my video before reposting and rushing to get Dylan (my daughter) to work. When I realized I didn’t have the time she looked at me and said, ‘It’s not my fault you on TikTok making videos.’
I felt a little played because that sounds like something a parent would say, but I digress. My videos are still for work.
So today I ask are you looking at new ways to connect with your target audience? What worked before may have actually worked, but that doesn’t mean that it cannot come to an end. It’s important to stay abreast of the latest trends and news as a business owner. You don’t want to be out of the loop.
