Visionary Women, Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization focused on the advancement and empowerment of women and girls, is pleased to announce a complimentary virtual salon “Women on the Frontier of Science: Cloning, COVID & Cancer Reimagined,â€Â via the Zoom platform on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 from 3:30 PM PST – 4:30 PM PST.
Moderated by Johenese Spisso, RN, MPA, President of UCLA Health and CEO of UCLA Hospital System, the virtual event will host featured guest Megan Hochstrasser, Ph.D., Education Program Manager at The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) who works alongside Jennifer Doudna, University of California, Berkeley professor and IGI founder, president, and chair. Earlier this month, Doudna was recognized this month as the first woman to jointly win the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with assistance from French microbiologist, Emmanuelle Charpentier.
The highly anticipated virtual event will discuss recent breakthroughs in COVID-19 research, as well as IGI’s revolutionary CRISPR DNA editing technology and its far-reaching power to help eradicate diseases such as viruses, cancers, and more. As a rising female player in the sciences, Hochstrasser will also speak about breaking barriers in a male-dominated industry and the profound influence of working alongside such a standout female pioneer such as Doudna.
“We are incredibly lucky to have Megan and Johenese speak to our visionary women about their pivotal roles in helping educate and heal the world,†said Shelley Reid, President of Visionary Women. “Their journeys will undoubtably provide support, strength and inspiration to our group to help us all further grow into individual female leaders.â€Â
