YWCA Greater BR Launches Pearls to the Polls, Aimed at Women Voters for the December 5th Election

The YWCA Greater Baton Rouge is taking a bold stand to celebrate the power of women voters in this election. During two days of early voting and on Election Day, the YWCA board and team will host voter engagement booths, giving away free pearls and snapping celebratory pictures. The booths will be featured near three early voting locations, Baker DMV, the State Archives Building, and downtown near City Hall.

Co-sponsored by The Power Coalition, the YWCA launched a community outreach strategy to encourage voters to return to the polls. With the support of organizations such as.Jack and Jill Louisiana, Alpha Kappa Alpha, The Maxine Firm, The Power Pump Girls, Pumps to the Polls, Sistars of Empowerment, Mission Possible Foundation, and Metro Health the women were able to reach organizational and neighborhood leaders. On the heels of our country’s recent 100th year anniversary of women’s suffrage, the YWCA is seeking more partners to engage groups in raising the voice of women voters. “The national political discourse may highlight the division in our country, but we believe that women have a strong, united voice that calls for policy changes that address women’s issues, regardless of race or political affiliation.  The YWCA is most grateful to Ashley Shelton and the Power Coalition and each of our community partners for helping to lift the voices of women in East Baton Rouge Parish,” said YWCA CEO, Dianna Payton.
