Feeling like time is passing you by? Feeling like you’ve been stuck in your current position?Â
During the quarantine, things have gotten tough for some people. I have been dealing with quarantine by working on my self-motivation, stating and planning out goals about what I want to accomplish at this season in my life. Self-motivation is the ability to drive oneself to take the initiative and action to pursue goals and complete tasks. Understanding and developing self-motivation can help take control of many aspects of a person’s life. Motivation is one of the three areas of personal skills that are pivotal to the concept of emotional intelligence.Â
Five Ways to Motivate Yourself are:Â
- Putting Pen to Paper
Writing down your long and short-term goals, as well as any tasks you may need or want to complete, can help motivate yourself more. It also enables you to focus and get an idea of what you are working towards in your current stage of life.Â
- Develop A PlanÂ
Once you have determined what you may want to achieve, the next steps are to develop how you are going to achieve these goals. Take a moment to think and consider who or what connections can develop to benefit yourself as an individual. Take time aside to sit and evaluate when you want to implement your plan.Â
- Manage your TimeÂ
Time management is a pivotal key to self-motivation. Proper Time management consists of 4 “D’s,” The Do’s, The Don’ts, Delegate, and Defer. Placing a task or project into one of these categories helps you manage your limited time more effectively and stay focused on what matters most to you. Great ways to improve your time management can be by:
- Start your tasks early,Â
- Set limits for what you’ll say yes to,
- Give yourself breaks.
- Prioritize your tasks.
- Schedule your tasks and deadlines.
- Organize your workplace.
- Learn your patterns of productivity
- Avoid procrastinationÂ
The main issue that stops people from completing tasks is procrastination. Procrastination is a hindrance gone unnoticed. To help with your own personal self-motivation, you should avoid procrastination. Being more aware of your time management can help prevent procrastination.Â
- Schedule Reflection Time
As you may consider what goals you may want to tackle this year, reflect on what you have currently completed or achieved. Reflect on how you are going about the rest of the year. It is important to take time for yourself to commit to your goals.Â
