Vanessa Spence is the mother of two daughters Michaela and Jordan, who have always been her motivation to do the work, break generational curses, and heal. Vanessa was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, and graduated from North Carolina State University.
The mom of two is an international best-selling author, speaker, budget coach, and training consultant with over 20 years of experience in working with Fortune 500 companies. Vanessa is certified in both Crown Financial Ministry and Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, where she works with people in the community to build and grow wealth.
As an active volunteer in the community, Vanessa is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. a public service organization committed to sisterhood, scholarship, and service. She is also the VP of Professional Development and Talent for the NETwork BICP, where its mission is to continue transforming the future by empowering its members and their community.
The Raleigh native is one of the authors of Unshakable Faith. This book includes stories from women who are true, pearls of great price, who have encountered trials and tribulations that challenged their faith, but, you will see that their faith was indeed, “Unshakable”. Minister Allison G. Daniels and several other women have shared stories from the heart as to how they had to redirect their emotions, redefine who God said they were, and their journey of being renewed, thus, allowing God to make a victorious difference in their lives, all to His glory.
SwagHer: How would you describe your swagher? What makes you who you are?
Vanessa: I describe my swagher as an intelligent, confident, funny, and loving woman of God; whose priority is to please my Heavenly Father. I am comfortable with who I am and not moved by the opinion of others. I do not try to fit in, but rather continue to create my own lane to be successful and make a difference in this world.
SwagHer: Why did you decide to take part in the Unshakable Faith anthology?
Vanessa: I decided to be a part of the Unshakable Faith project because I knew it was time for me to start sharing some of my testimony and inspire the lives of others.
SwagHer: Can you describe a time when your faith was challenged but you stood tall?
Vanessa: I share in my Unshakable Faith project a time when I was in a dark place with the loss of loved ones and toxic relationships. I recall how although I was angry with God, I still knew that I just needed to have a little faith.
It says in God’s word Matthew 17:20, “ And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
I stood on that promise then and continue to stand on God’s word today.
SwagHer: How do you view your work as a vocation—a call from and a duty to God?
Vanessa: I consider my work a call from God, however, it is my duty to share the goodness of Christ with others. I know I was spared so many times from my foolish decisions or just life circumstances because I am chosen, but our Heavenly Father loves each one of us, and we as Christians are called to shine our light in a world of darkness. I hope my story and my life will inspire others to have a personal relationship with God and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
SwagHer: What was the writing process like for you?
Vanessa: The writing process for me starts with praying and just opening my heart and mind to receive what the Holy Spirit lays on my heart to share.
There is so much more to share in my testimony, but I want God to lead me on when to share it. In my “Unshakable Faith” project, I shared what the Holy Spirit released for me to share at that time.
